Bed bug heat treatment in London

London is a city of flats, shared houses and short lets, and bed bugs travel easily between them. Heat treatment clears a flat in a day without spraying, and in the capital it usually costs a little more than elsewhere. Flats, shared walls and shared houses

Most Londoners live in flats or shared houses, and that changes how a bed bug problem is handled. Bugs can move through gaps around pipes, cables and skirting boards into the next flat, so a treatment that stops at your front door can leave a source next door.

If you rent, tell your landlord or agent in writing. In a block, tell the managing agent too, because they may want neighbouring flats checked at the same time. A good specialist will ask about the flats either side and above.

Short lets and hotels see a lot of luggage come and go, which is a common way for bed bugs to arrive. Landlords and hosts can read more on commercial bed bug treatment.

What London councils say

  • Hounslow treats bed bugs for £300 for two visits, up to two rooms, with £75 for each extra room (from April 2026).
  • Lewisham charges for treatment, with concessions, and asks for bed bugs in HMOs to be reported to its housing team.
  • Tower Hamlets explains when the landlord or the tenant is responsible, and can treat and recharge or serve a notice.

Council treatments are usually insecticide over several visits, not heat. Check your own borough before booking.

Questions from London

How much is bed bug heat treatment in London?

Usually about £750 to £1,300 for a one-bed flat and £950 to £1,650 for two bedrooms, from London firms' published prices and national guides read in October 2026. A single room can be less; large homes and HMOs can reach £2,000 or more.

Will my London council treat bed bugs?

Some boroughs still do, usually with insecticide rather than heat. Hounslow, for example, charges £300 for two visits covering up to two rooms in 2026. Others have no service or charge with concessions, so check your own borough's website.

I live in a flat. Do my neighbours need treating too?

Possibly. Bed bugs can move between flats through gaps around pipes and wiring, so if a neighbour has them as well, treating one flat may not be enough. Tell the managing agent or freeholder, and mention it on the form so the specialist can plan the survey.
